Théo Dancer
Ask around and the name Vincent Dancer generally draws an "ooh" and a wry smile that says, "Oh,so you know, do you?" If it's unfamiliar that's okay too, as it’s true that his wines have always ended up in few places and even fewer cellars. Théo Dancer, Vincent’s son, has been working with his father at the family domaine for much of his young life, and has recently taken the reins. Aside from taking over the domaine and continuing the work his father has taught him, Théo has also started his own eponymous label. For his project, Théo is working with specific grape varietals that are traditional to Burgundy; Aliogote and Gamay while also exploring grapes like Savagnin and Grenache to show whats possible with some of his favourite (non traditional to Burgundy) varietals. Théo told us “I chose these specific grape varieties as they are the ones I remember most fondly drinking alongside my father as a child” which is something that we both appreciate and admire as truly great wines transport you to both a time, and a place. When tasting these wines you feel the soul of Dancer's transparency along with the energy of a23-year-old, wildly talented winemaker. When we were lucky enough to taste these wines at the domaine late last year, they were easily some of the best expressions of these grapes we’ve ever had. The wines each have tremendous individuality yet there is a connective thread throughout which showcases just how talented Théo has already become.
