You’ve likely already heard the story about Théo Dancer, and what makes him, and his wines so special. In case you haven’t here are a few of the highlights:

At the age of just 22, Théo took over the reigns at Vincent Dancer in Chassagne Montrachet and has been head winemaker there for the last few vintages. At the same time, Théo decided to launch his own project, which would feature grape varietals that inspire him, and are a reflection of the ones he enjoyed drinking most with his father as a child. Aligoté, Savagnin, Gamay, and Grenache.

Remaining faithful to the authenticity of these grape varieties, he sources the fruit exclusively from their regions of origin, while applying Burgundian expertise to the vinification process. Its also worth noting that while Théo doesn’t disclose his exact sources, we’re certain the fruit comes from some of each regions top growers.

All the wines of this new entity are crafted in the winery of the estate, in Chassagne Montrachet. To ensure complete control over the process, Théo personally oversees the harvest and transport of the grapes in refrigerated trucks to his domaine. This project embodies a philosophy centred on innovation, refinement, and openness to what is being done elsewhere, with the goal of producing increasingly precise and authentic wines across all their labels. In this way, the initiative reflects a steadfast commitment to reinvention and adaptability, while remaining true to a quest for precision.

The philosophy for these wines is identical to that of the domaine, and they are vinified in the same cellar. It’s actually one of my favourite parts of visiting with Théo, as once we’ve tasted the Vincent Dancer lineup, we walk over to the other side of the cellar and get to taste Théo’s wines which often rival their cellar mates.

With his 2023 vintage, Théo has produced his finest rendition yet. The wines are electric, and showcase Théo’s unwavering commitment to quality, with low alcohol levels and a striking balance of both freshness & tension.
