We first contacted Hugo and Talloulah in July of 2022 and expressed interest in their project. While seemingly interested, they simply didn't have enough wine to export to Ontario. Fast forward a few years, and we’re so thrilled to be able to now offer the first vintage (well vintages) of these wines in Ontario. These are incredibly special wines and there aren’t many to go around…

While honing their craft at Domaines Mugnier, Roulot, Clos De Tart, Benjamin Leroux, and a remarkable passage in Valais with the great Marie-Thérèse Chappaz they saw the potential of Maranges' windy, forest-adjacent plots – an appellation traditionally regarded as too cold to produce 'fine' artisanal wines, where crops were mostly sold off in bulk.

Since taking over the domaine in January 2020, the couple's dedication to great organic farming has transformed these underrated old-vine hillsides into some of Burgundy's most exciting terroirs.

Spanning 5 hectares of vineyards that the couple converted to organics (now certified), the microclimate Maranges is somewhat cooler than in other parts of the Côte, resulting in a harvest up to two weeks later than in the Côte de Beaune’s more celebrated villages. As a result, Cassiopée wines are often brighter and more structured, with a transcendent purity and minerality.

The winery's ambitious approach to winemaking, combined with respect for the soil and biodiversity, has resulted in a collection of wines that are not only characterised by purity and mineral content, but also reflect the talent and passion of their creators. With each harvest, Domaine de Cassiopée continues to attract international attention, which promises a bright future for this young and dynamic winery.

From 0.9 ha in the relatively unknown area of Chassey-le-Camp, planted just next to the Aligoté on a hillside planted northeast (towards Beaune). Vines between 50 and 70 years old with low yields due to their poor health. 40% whole clusters and the couple pushed the aging a little longer than the other reds. Produced a more concentrated, deeper more textural wine.
