2024 Jade Gross Chiguita (Case of 6)

Varieties Viura/ Tempranillo blanco / Garnacha blanca

The Tempranillo blanco and Garnacha blanca were sourced from vineyards planted on ferrous clay soils in the valley of Alto de Najerilla, the Malvasia grape from old vines inLaguardia while the Viura is sourced from vineyards planted on 600 meters limestone-clay soils in Labastida.

Over a one week period, the white grapes were hand harvested separately following their maturation period and after a rigorous selection in the vineyard. The grapes were pressed and fermentation took place separately in French oak barrels. The wine aged for 6 months on fine lees.

Jade Gross is an absolute powerhouse young woman who was born in Hong Kong. She began her career as a human rights lawyer, completing a degree from the London School Of Economics. When she realized she “wasn’t going to save the world”, Jade shifted her focus and enrolled in a French cooking school armed with a fresh grant from the James Beard Foundation.

She then spent time working at Michelin star restaurants beginning as an intern at Alain Ducass au Plaza Athénée. From there she worked in other top Michelin star restaurants from D.O.M in Sau Paulo, to Celler de Can Roca in Spain before landing at Mugaritz in San Sebastian where she climbed the ranks to head chef.

For most, this would be the pinnacle of achievement, however not for Jade. She felt herself wanting more, and had a sense that she had accomplished all she could in the world of cuisine.

It was time for a new adventure...

For her next act, Jade decided that she wanted to make wine, something that would allow her to learn and grow in newfound ways that the kitchen could no longer offer. Jade moved to the small Spanish town of San Vincente de la Sonsierra and found mentors in Abel Mendoza and his wife Maite Fernandez. Under their guidance, Jade began making wine in 2019 and hasn’t looked back.
